BERHAMPUR: A philanthropist organisation of the city with the assistance of a local audio recording studio has come up with free 'ring tones' and 'hello tunes' for mobile phones to promote blood and eye donation and plantation.
Friends Welfare Club (FWC) hit upon the idea a few months ago. Its president R. Shankar Rao Achary says initially he started using slogans for these causes recorded in his own voice through his own mobile as his ring tone. It drew much attention. It prompted him to use the same slogans on a big scale in a professional manner. It may be noted that FWC is involved in promotion of blood and eye donation, environmental protection activities and enhancement of traditional forms of art and culture. "We wanted to take the slogan of blood donation, eye donation and plantation drives to the youth in a trendy fashion," says Mr. Achary.
When the club approached Studio Sangeet Sagar, an audio recording studio of the city, the recording studio authorities also came out to do this philanthropic work free of cost. Y. Nageswara Rao of the studio says: "We are impressed that the FWC did not want its name publicised through the ring tone or hello tunes, they only wanted to make the slogans popular. So, we decided to help it in this noble cause."
Artistes' gesture
At present these ring tones with a timely message have started making rounds in the city. The slogans are 'donate blood save life, donate eyes give sight and you save trees, trees will save you'. They have been recorded in both male and female voices. The professional artistes who extended their voices for it have also preferred to do it free of cost.
Mr. Achary says these ring tones can be downloaded from their website www.friendswelfareclub.com. They are now planning to release Oriya and Telugu versions of these ring tones and hello tunes.
