An online education fair 

“Online Edufair 2010” is being organised by Gyanwave this month from June 25 to 30. To be held daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., the fair will feature colleges and universities across the country and the world.

 

Taking cognisance of the fact that most students spend a great deal of time on the Internet, the fair is being organised to facilitate better access for students to educational institutes.

 

Students and their families will have the opportunity to browse information on several institutions at one website along with video conferencing and sessions by renowned speakers and live chat with admission representatives from participating institutions. Students can also avail of on-the-spot online admission.

 

Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, organised a workshop this past week on management imperatives for educational institutions to brief participants on the nuances of management and to empower them to become effective managers and leaders.

 

The four-day workshop updated participants on current managerial practices and design interventions. The workshop covered a broad range of topics related to management principles, self-development, brand and human resource management, empowerment and motivation, and leadership. The participants included school principals, senior teachers and administrators.

 

Manipal College of Medical Sciences based in Nepal has announced admissions to its M.B.B.S. course commencing in August.

 

The college has been established in collaboration between the Manipal group and the Nepal Government. Admissions will be on merit. There is no entrance exam. Candidates should be above 17 years of age. Applicants can visit http://www.manipal.edu.np or write to admissions at manipalu.com. The last date for submission of applications is July 31.

 

Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, has announced an advanced certificate programme in business analytics for Delhi residents. The programme targets analysts, researchers, executives, consultants and developers aiming for better career prospects in the corporate sector.

 

It will provide knowledge about quantitative and statistical analysis by focusing on developing new insights and understanding business performance. Course components include lectures, real life case studies, corporate examples, general discussions and assignments. Business leaders from different industries would be invited to share their experiences.

 

The programme duration is one year and will be held through video conferencing. Evaluation will be done on a continuous basis.

 

Gurgaon-based Ansal Institute of Technology and Wipro Technologies conducted a five-day faculty empowerment workshop this past week. The aim was to empower faculty members with innovative teaching techniques and tools to make classroom teaching more effective. Thirty-two faculty members from Ansal Institute of Technology and Dronacharya College of Engineering participated in the workshop.

 

Indira Gandhi National Open University has announced the launch of new programmes in participatory development in collaboration with Participatory Research in Asia, a non-government organisation. The programmes, which have been launched in response to the need for quality human resources in the development sector, will start in July.

 

These programmes which include Masters, advanced diploma, post-graduate diploma and post-graduate certificate in participatory development are being offered by IGNOU's Centre for Extension Education. Candidates possessing a Bachelor's degree in any discipline can apply. The last date for submission of completed application forms is July 31.
