my apologies for those who are not from Delhi as i know this list has a very wide membership but i just wanted to send this notice to the members basically based in Delhi as this list also has a a good number of group members from Delhi too.
This lecture on the above mentioned subject will be held on the 86th birth anniversary of late Sri Lal Advani. Mr. Advani was among those public figures of that generation who
made a great contribution to the initiation of modern services in India during
the second half of the last century. Being blind since early childhood, he devoted his entire life to lay down the foundation of modern
rehabilitation services for the disabled in India is therefore, rightly
considered to be the father of such services in India. He was the first and
the only blind civil servant in India in the last half of the 19th
The lecture is open to all and will be held as a part of VC lecture series and will be chaired by the VC, Delhi University. It will be delivered by Professor Amita Dhanda who is the head of Centre for Disability Studies at NALSAR University of Law in Hyderbad. She has written several books on law and disability and has actively contributed to suggest amendments in the PWD Act.
Timing and venue:
The whole event will begin with a discussion on the contribution of Lal Advani to the field of rehabilitation of the disabled in India and the importance of disability studies between 1. Pm to 2-30 PM at the Equal Opportunity Cell, Delhi University on Monday, 26th April. This will be followed by the lecture on the above mentioned subject by Amita Dhanda at 3 PM in room 22 of arts faculty, Delhi University.
