What is OpenID?
OpenID is an open standard for shared identity service by which an internet user can create a single digital identity and using the same user can logon to many websites. This avoids the need of username and password for every site. OpenID is an open standard, de-centralized & free framework which can be used for websites specific to user-centric identity. Using OpenID existing URIs can be transformed easily into an account which can be used at sites which support OpenID logins.

OpenID is still in the beginning stage and is becoming more popular, and large organizations like AOL, Microsoft, Sun, Novell, etc. begin to accept and provide OpenIDs. Today it is estimated that there are over 160-million OpenID enabled URIs with nearly ten-thousand sites supporting OpenID logins.
