Smartphones to be available for Rs 10,000

MUMBAI, MARCH 20: The world's leading provider of Microsoft Windows Mobile based smart devices, Taiwan-based High Tech Computer (HTC) today said it will
soon make smartphones affordable for a large section of consumers. "In six months we will introduce smartphones priced below Rs 10,000," said HTC country
manager Ajay Sharma. He said that the company is working with Airtel on a plan to launch voice, data and video applications on its smartphones.   

After making its presence felt in the high-end GSM mobile telephony, HTC today forayed into the CDMA market in India. It announced a strategic alliance
with Reliance Communications and launched two new smart devices - the HTC P3000 and HTC S720. 

Under the alliance, HTC's CDMA handsets will be exclusively provided on RComm's wireless network. "With the introduction of the HTC P3000 and HTC S720,
customers will soon have access to these innovative CMDA devices," said HTC president Peter Chou. 

The company said it expects to sell 1million units by 2009 in India. HTC has 9 GSM smartphones available in India, with the addition of the CDMA phones
the product portfolio now stands at 11. The CDMA handsets two models HTC P3000 and the HTC S720 have been priced at Rs 16,500 and Rs 19,500 respectively.
